Orta Doğu Teknik Üniversitesi ya da kısaca ODTÜ[10] (İngilizce: Middle East Technical University, kısaca METU), 15 Kasım 1956[1][2] tarihinde, zamanın Türkiye başbakanı Adnan Menderes, Karayolları Genel Müdürü Vecdi Diker ve bir grup İTÜ'lü akademisyen tarafından[11] Ankara'da kurulmuş bir devlet üniversitesi. Mersin'de bulunan Deniz Bilimleri Enstitüsü ve KKTC'de bulunan ODTÜ KKK (Kuzey Kıbrıs Kampüsü) dışında bütün binaları aynı kampüstedir.[12] Bugüne kadar 120 binin üzerinde mezun veren üniversitenin[8] eğitim dili İngilizcedir.[6]

Yabancı dilde eğitim vermek, merkezî bilgisayar sistemi kurmak, üniversite müzesi açmak, teknokent kurmak, internet bağlantısı gerçekleştirmek gibi ülke çapında birçok ilki gerçekleştiren üniversite,[13] Öğrenci Seçme ve Yerleştirme Sistemi ile yalnızca en üstteki %3'lük dilimden öğrenci kabul etmektedir.[6] 2014'te Times Higher Education Dünya Üniversite Sıralaması'nda 85. sırada yer alan ODTÜ,[14] bu listede ilk yüze girebilen tek Türk üniversitesidir.[15]

Middle East Technical University (commonly referred to as METU; in Turkish, Orta Doğu Teknik Üniversitesi ODTÜ) is a public technical university located in Ankara, Turkey. The university puts special emphasis on research and education in engineering and natural sciences, offering about 40 undergraduate programs within 5 faculties, and 97 masters and 62 doctorate programs within 5 graduate schools.[2] The main campus of METU spans an area of 11,100 acres (4,500 ha), comprising, in addition to academic and auxiliary facilities, a forest area of 7,500 acres (3,000 ha), and the natural lake Eymir. METU has more than 95,000 alumni worldwide.[4] The official language of instruction at METU is English.[2]

Over one third of the 1,000 highest scoring students in the national university entrance examination choose to enroll in METU; and most of its departments accept the top 0.1% of the nearly 1.5 million applicants.[2] METU had the greatest share in national research funding by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK) in the last five years, and it is the leading university in Turkey in terms of the number of European Union Framework Programme (FP) projects participation.[5][6] Over 40% of METU's undergraduate alumni choose to pursue graduate studies.[2]
